What is an Electrical Safety Certificate?
Electrical Safety Certificates or otherwise known as EICR’s (Electrical Installation Condition Reports) is a health check of the whole electrical installation from lights to sockets, cooker or the garage or garden shed. It looks at the health of the things you cannot see as all too often the cables are buried in the wall or under the floors.
Why do I need an electrical safety certificate?
Your lights switches and socket outlets may look nice and clean on the outside and you may think that everything is in good condition. What you cannot know is a mouse has entered the house and is frantically looking for something to eat and has started chewing your cables in the loft, or under the floor or behind the kitchen cupboard. Alternatively that hot water pipe is too close to the cable and the insulation and after a few years has started to degrade. Or the or that cutlery rack you put up by the kitchen sink a few years ago has damaged a cable hidden in the wall.
So I’ll now pose a question - what would happen to the metal work if that damaged cable touches it ?
are you certain that fuse will trip? – would you bet your life on it?
An electrical safety check will help ensure these hazards don't go unnoticed, helping to keep you, your family and your Salisbury area home safe.
